The Ada-Borup-West Cougars will go into their holiday break with a 5-0 record after defeating the Mahnomen-Waubun Thunderbirds 71-55 on Friday night. Mahnomen-Waubun took their only lead of the game at 12-9 with 13:50 remaining in the first half, but then went scoreless for over five minutes of game time while the Cougars went on a 12-0 run. Another scoreless drought of over four minutes by the Thunderbird offense followed and allowed the Cougars to go up by as many as fourteen in the first half before entering halftime up 41-28. The Cougars continued to get the ball into the paint with cutters, dribble drives, and transition offense to score from close range as they build their lead out to 20 after halftime. Mahnomen-Waubun fought back and pulled as close as eight points with three-minutes remaining but would get no closer as the Cougars came out on top 71-55. Ada-Borup-West is 5-0 and will next face the NCE-UH Titans on Jan. 5th, 2023. The Thunderbirds suffer their first loss of the year and fall to 3-1 and will host BGMR next Tuesday before wrapping their pre-holiday schedule at Cass Lake-Bena on Thursday.
