Cass Lake, MN — The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds came up with win number four on the season after beating the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers 3-0 on Tuesday night.

It was a tough night for Mahnomen/Waubun as they started slow in all three games facing early adversity as a result. Cass Lake-Bena hung with the Thunderbirds early in set one, trading points and keeping the game tied 7-7. From that point though, Mahnomen/Waubun would find their groove and outscore CLB 18-3 the rest of the way and take the opener 25-10. In set two, Cass Lake-Bena would take the early 4-0 lead and hold off the Thunderbirds until they tied the set 8-8. Both teams traded points until the T-Birds would make a mid set 7-1 run leading by six but credit Cass Lake-Bena as they would answer with a 6-0 run of their own and once again tie set two 18-18. Mahnomen/Waubun would buckle down in the final stages of the set and take it 25-20 and go up 2-0. Once again in set three, Cass Lake-Bena would go up early 5-0. MahnomenWaubun used to the adversity Tuesday night, would score eight of the next ten taking an 8-7 advantage. The final stages would see 11 ties 9 lead changes as Mahnomen/Waubun would hang on for the 25-21 set three win and the 3-0 overall victory.
