Lake Park-Audubon at Mahnomen-Waubun

Recap

Waubun, MN – Big runs and the 1-2 punch of Kennedy Beringer and Ava Poegel was winning formula for Lake Park Audubon to get the sweep over Mahnomen/Waubun (27-25, 25-9, 25-22).

In the first set, it was the true definition of a back and forth set as it was tied at 10 different points in the set. Lake Park Audubon got to a set point at 24-20, but Mahnomen/Waubun put up 4 straight points to force extra volleyball. After trading a couple points, it was the Raiders who were eventually able to get 2 in a row to close out the first set.

In the second set, the Thunderbirds scored the first point, but then it was 15 straight points put up by the Raiders thanks to great serving from Chloe Johnson who got 2 of her 3 aces in that stretch. The Raiders kept the Thunderbirds on their heals the rest of the set winning in dominant fashion 25-9.

In the third set, the Thunderbirds looked refocused as they were able to score 4 in a row after giving up the first point of the set. Then Chloe Johnson again got to the service line for the Raiders and again delivered a long rally putting up 7 straight points to make it 8-4. It stayed fairly even until late in the set when Lake Park Audubon was able to open up a 7 point lead at 20-13. The Thunderbirds came thundering back though going on a 9-3 one to trail by just one, but that would be as close as they could get as the Raiders were able to get the next two points to complete the sweep.

Lake Park Audubon gets back to even at 6-6 on the season and 2-1 in the Pine to Prairie Conference. The Raiders will be back on the road on Thursday against Ada-Borup-West.

Mahnomen/Waubun falls to 4-6 on the season and 0-3 in the Pine to Prairie Conference. They will also be on the road on Thursday when they travel to take on Park Christian.
