GBB Mahnomen-Waubun at Climax-Fisher

Climax-Fisher and Mahnomen-Waubun dueled through overtime Friday night in Climax, with the Knights eventually prevailing in overtime 62-57.

Climax-Fisher took a nine point lead into the locker room at halftime, but Mahnomen-Waubun scored the first 12 points of the second half to take their first lead 30-27.  The Thunderbirds would eventually go up by nine at 41-32.  The Knights would rally and regain the lead 52-51 on a Lucy Paulsrud basket with :45 to play in regulation.

On the ensuing possession, Mahnomen-Waubun’s Maddie Bass hit a three pointer to put the Thunderbirds back in front 54-52 with 2.6 seconds remaining.

Climax-Fisher inbounded, threw a pass to midcourt, then another pass to a wide open Paulsrud, who made a layup as time expired, forcing overtime with the game tied at 54-54.

The Knights’ Peyton Hoffman scored the first basket of the overtime and they never trailed after that. Hoffman scored a game-high 33 points, making 13 of 15 free throws.  Ava Larson added 11 for Climax-Fisher, who have now won five of their last six games.

Lexi Pazdernik scored 17 points for the Thunderbirds, with Maddie Bass and Peyton McArthur Gordon adding 16 apiece.  Mahnomen-Waubun has lost six in a row, falling to 7-18 on the season.  The Thunderbirds play Red Lake County Central Tuesday night in Oklee.

Climax-Fisher (12-11) hosts Sacred Heart Tuesday night in Fisher.
