Waubun, MN — Sacred Heart scored in the last 5 innings of the game including scoring exactly 3 in each of the last 4 innings in an upset win over Mahnomen/Waubun. Mahnomen/Waubun’s Jaz Olson sat down the first 7 batters of the game in order before the offensive onslaught ensued.
The Thunderbirds first batter of the game Emily Zima singled and then stole second and two throwing errors later on that stolen base attempt it was 1-0 in favor of the Thunderbirds. Then in the third inning both teams were able to plate a run to make it 2-1 Mahnomen/Waubun. In the 4th it was even more offense for both teams as the Eagles plated 3 in large part to 2 errors, but the Thunderbirds answered back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie it up at 4. From there it was all Sacred Heart, as the next three innings they would score 3 runs on 4 hits in each of those innings. Blake Brockpahler was the star down the stretch as the Freshman hit a 2 run homerun in the 6th inning and a 2 RBI single in the 7th. The Thunderbirds were able to plate one run in the 7th inning, but the effort would come up short as they stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Sacred Heart advances and will play Red Lake Falls at 4 pm in Red Lake Falls. For Mahnomen/Waubun they will play in the elimination bracket vs. Bagley in Greenbush on Thursday at 4 pm.
