Lexi Mahlen scored 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as the Fosston Greyhounds defeated the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds 61-57 Tuesday night in Fosston. The Greyhounds used a 17-0 run in the first half to help give them a 29-22 lead at halftime but the Thunderbirds would take the lead twice in the second half at 32-31 and 48-47. The Greyhounds would take the lead for good at 49-48 as they improve to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the Pine to Prairie Conference. For the second night in a row, Freshman Brielle Duppong nailed five 3 pointers and ended up scoring 17 points for Fosston. Lexy Illies came off the Greyhound bench and scored 9 points with Teagan Duppong adding 7 points for Fosston. Brynn McArthur led the Thunderbirds with 15 points before fouling out with 1:18 left in the game. Dakiya Smith added 13 points and Kenley Syverson 12 points for the Thunderbirds as they had their three game winning streak snapped and fall to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Savannah Keezer hit three 3 pointers and ended up with 9 points for Mahnomen/Waubun. Both teams were coming off games the previous night with Fosston losing at home to East Grand Forks Sacred Heart and Mahnomen/Waubun winning at Fertile-Beltrami. Fosston won the “B” Squad game in overtime as Hannah Fonder hit two free throws with a half a second left to give the Greyhounds a 22-21 win.
