The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds moved on to the Section 8A Quarterfinals with a 51-36 win at Fosston. The Greyhounds defeated the Thunderbirds 69-56 in Fosston on January 6th but the Thunderbirds led for most of the game Thursday night. Peyton McArthur Gordon led Mahnomen/Waubun with 16 points as the Thunderbirds improved to 9-17 overall and snapped a four game losing skid. Kenley Syverson added 14 points and Kati Zima 9 for the Thunderbirds. Brielle Duppong led the Greyhounds with 23 points as Fosston ended their season at 11-14. Miley Hove closed out her Greyhound career with 8 points. Mahnomen/Waubun led 26-19 at halftime and led by as many as 16 in the second half at 47-31. The Thunderbirds will now face East Grand Forks Sacred Heart at 3:30 Saturday afternoon in the 8A Quarterfinals at Thief River Falls (101.5 FM). The Greyhounds turned the ball over 17 times compared to 15 turnovers for Mahnomen/Waubun. The Greyhounds graduate two seniors with Lexi Mahlen and Miley Hove wrapping up their careers as Greyhounds.
