Ulen, MN — The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds picked up a convincing girls basketball win on Friday night, defeating the NCE/U-H Titans.

The Thunderbirds seized control early, using a 13–0 scoring run to build a 24–7 lead in the first half. NCE/U-H responded with a 10–3 run of their own, pulling back within nine points at 24–15 with 4:37 remaining before halftime. Mahnomen/Waubun answered by tightening up defensively, forcing turnovers and converting them into points, and carried a commanding 35–19 advantage into the break.

Mahnomen/Waubun opened the second half by scoring the first eight points, quickly extending the lead to 43–19 and firmly taking control of the game. The Titans were limited to just nine points in the entire second half, as the Thunderbirds cruised to a 68–28 victory.

With the win, Mahnomen/Waubun improves to 2–6 on the season and will host Fertile-Beltrami on Monday. NCE/U-H falls to 1–5 and will also return to action on Monday, hosting the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears.
