Ulen, MN — The NCE/U-H Titans pulled out a thrilling 67–64 boys basketball victory over the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds on Friday night.

The first half was tightly contested, featuring nine ties and four lead changes as both teams traded baskets. NCE/U-H closed the half on a 7–2 scoring run, allowing the Titans to take a 32–24 lead into halftime.

Missed free throws became a major storyline in the second half. Mahnomen/Waubun briefly took a 47–45 lead with eight minutes remaining, but the advantage was short-lived as NCE/U-H quickly regained the lead. From there, the Titans maintained a four- to five-point cushion for much of the half, helped by struggles at the free-throw line for the Thunderbirds. Mahnomen/Waubun had multiple chances to regain the lead at the stripe but went just 6-for-21 from the line in the second half, finishing 9-for-27 for 33 percent on the night.

NCE/U-H capitalized down the stretch by protecting the basketball and making timely plays, holding on for the 67–64 win.

With the victory, the Titans improve to 1–3 on the season and will face Rothsay on December 29th. Mahnomen/Waubun falls to 5–2 and will be back in action on December 22nd at Breckenridge.
