Recap

It was a defensive battle in Red Lake Falls that saw Mahnomen Waubun come from behind to pick up a 13-12 win over the Red Lake County Rebels to stay undefeated at 5-0.  The Rebels were able to take advantage of a Thunderbird turnover in the 2nd quarter to start the scoring, and that would be the only score of the 1st half going into the halftime mark with RLC leading 6-0.  THe 2nd half would see Mahnomen Waubun get the offense going with a late 3rd quarter score to tie the game at 6-6.  In the 4th quarter RLC would get a big pass play to bring the ball deep into THunderbird territory, and a couple of plays later back up quarterback Connor Duden would punch in a score from 1 yd out, but the Rebels would miss the extra point leaving the score at 12-6 Rebels.  Mahnomen Waubun would use their  own big pass play on a halfback pass to get the ball into Rebels territory.  They would go to the ground attack and Easton Bevins would finish the drive off with a 1 yard run, and the Thunderbirds would make the extra point to take the lead at 13-12 with 3:53 remaining.  The Rebels would put together a drive and again would get a big pass play to drive the ball deep into Mahnomen Waubun territory.  The Thunderbirds defense would hold forcing RLC into a 4th and 4 with 1:09 remaining.  RLC would opt for the 25 yard field goal attempt, but the kick would go wide right and the Thunderbirds would hang on for the win.  Mahnomen Waubun is now 5-0 while Red Lake County drops to 4-1.
