Red Lake Falls, MN — The Red Lake County Rebels won their 17th straight Section 8A Game on Tuesday night defeating the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbird 83-69.

While it was another double digit win for Red Lake County Tuesday night’s W didn’t come easy. Mahnomen/Waubun came out with a ton of energy and that led to them being up 19-11 at the 11 minute mark of the first half. After Red Lake County turned up their intensity cutting the deficit down, the T-Birds would put together an 8-0 run to take a double digit lead 31-21. Red Lake County after that would get hot outscoring Mahnomen/Waubun 27-5 the rest of the half. Red Lake County sharpshooter Connor Duden would hit four triples scoring 22 of his 32 points in the first half and Senior teammate Will Gieske chipped in 12 first half points and the Rebels took a 48-36 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Mahnomen/Waubun continued to put the pressure on Red Lake County slowly chipping into the lead and even cutting the deficit to just five points. However, the Rebels used their experience and calm demeanor down the stretch to string together stops and build up another double digit lead that eventually turned into a 93-69 victory.

Red Lake County is now 22-1 on the season and will play a massive West-Subsection game on Thursday when they visit Fertile-Beltrami (KKCQ 96.7 FM). Mahnomen/Waubun has now lost four of their last six games falling to 13-10 on the season. The Thunderbirds will look to bounce back Thursday when they host Stephen/Argyle (GOLD 101.5 FM KRJM, YourLiveEvent).
