Mahnomen/Waubun at Red Lake County Central

Mahnoment/Waubun looked to avenge their loss from the first game of the season against Red Lake County Central and they had the upper hand early on with a 9-6 lead. The teams would trade buckets until Red Lake County Central ramped it up during the second part of the first half and jumped on an 8-0 run to take a 24-17 lead. Mahnomen/Waubun’s Emily Zima would follow that up with a 4-0 run by herself. The Mustangs would respond right back with the last 4 points of the half and take a 28-21 lead at the half.

The second half started with both teams traded turnovers an 2 minutes of scoreless basketball before Red Lake Country Central would finally break the seal. It took Mahnomen/Waubun 7 minutes of game time to get their first points of the second half and had 7 turnovers in that same time. The Mustangs defense was too strong for the Thunderbirds the whole half as the only allowed 12 second half points. MaKaelyn Frizzle cleaned the offensive glass and got most of her 11 second half points on second chance points and helped her Mustangs secure the season sweep over the Mustangs.

Red Lake County Central improves to 18-5 on the season and will play back at home against Sacred Heart tomorrow night. Mahnomen/Waubun falls to 8-16 and will play their season finale next Thursday at home vs Stephen-Argyle.
