Erskine, MN — The Win E Mac Patriots beat the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds 14-9 Tuesday night to advance to the next round of the Section 8A Baseball Tournament.
Win E Mac was putting the ball in play early scoring seven runs in the opening inning on seven hits, all singles. Win E Mac would continue to force the Thunderbirds to make plays on defense and scored once more in the second and three more times in the third, including a Nick Schow 2-run home run. Entering the fourth the Patriots were in full command leading 11-1. Mahnomen/Waubun scored two runs on one hit in the fourth to make it 11-3 but they were still needed to put up a crooked number at some point to get back in the game. That crooked number would come in the fifth when the T-Birds batted around and score four of their five runs with two outs in the inning. Just like that Mahnomen/Waubun was right back in the game trailing 11-8 with two innings left to go.
Win E Mac would make a pitching change in the sixth inning inserting Cooper Gieseke who would allow just one run on run hit over the final two innings and securing the 14-9 victory for the Patriots.
Win E Mac is now 10-8 on the year and will play the Fosston Greyhounds in the next round on Thursday from Bemdiji State University at 10 am. Mahnomen./Waubun’s season comes to an end at 8-13 overall.
