May-Port CG 34, Northern Cass 19

Matthew Rexine scored three touchdowns and Bryce Moch added two more as May-Port CG defeated Northern Cass 34-19 Friday night at Northern Cass.

Moch, who had one rush for one yard on the season going into the game, carried 18 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns.  Rexine ran 18 times for 61 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 22 yard TD pass from Ryder Fugleberg for another score.

The Patriots (2-3) also had three takeaways on defense…as a Northern Cass fumble on the third play of the game was recovered by Marshall Kloster at the Northern Cass two.  Rexine scored on the next play.

A Northern Cass takeaway led to the Jaguars’ first touchdown later in the opening quarter.  Matthew Metzger intercepted a Fugleberg pass and returned it 15 yards.  Metzger was tackled near the goal line and fumbled, but recovered it for a touchdown that tied the game at 7.

May-Port CG took the lead before halftime on Fugleberg’s pass to Rexine with 1:28 to go in the half.

Moch’s two touchdown runs came in the third quarter–from 35 and 49 yards.  In between, Northern Cass’s Matthew Hoppe scored on a three yard run.  The score was 28-13, Patriots after three quarters.

Rexine scored on a two yard run with 5:58 to play, raising the Patriot lead to 34-13.  Jaguar quarterback Julian Leichtenberg scored on a one yard run with 3:17 to play to end the scoring.

Hoppe rushed 18 times for 108 yards for the Jaguars (0-6).

Northern Cass plays its final three games on the road, starting next Friday, Sept. 29 at Thompson.
