The Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros came through with clutch plays down the stretch to take a late lead and defeat the MayPort-CG Patriots 61-56 for the Burro’s first win of the season. The two teams played back and forth in the first half with a decisive edge in rebounding helping the Patriots take a 27-25 lead into halftime. The Patriots were able to come out strong in the third quarter and went up by eight points after holding the Burros to a three-plus minute scoreless drought. However the Burros quickly returned the favor and held the Patriots scoreless for their own three minutes of game time for a 10-0 run that gave them the lead before entering the fourth quarter tied at 39-39. Again the teams were able to battle back and forth before it was the Burros leading 55-54 in the final minutes of the game. The Burros then executed on both ends of the court with a drive and kick leading to an open three-pointer for the lead before the defense poked the ball away from the Patriots on the next possession leading to a fast break score and a five-point lead for the Burros before the eventual 61-56 win.
