Hillsboro/Central Valley took advantage of 3 walks, 2 hits and 2 errors to score 5 runs in the third inning and withstood a late MayPort-CG rally to defeat the Patriots 6-4 Monday in Hillsboro.

MPCG opened the scoring in the first inning when with runners on first and third, the Patriots tried a double steal. When catcher Tyson Leshuk’s throw to second was offline, Connor Dockter scored from third to put the Patriots up 1-0.

Hillsboro/Central Valley tied it in the second inning on a home run to right by Broedy Breidenbach.  In the third, Tyson Leshuk led off with a walk.  Chase Haffely grounded to second; MPCG second baseman Aaden Aarsvold tried to tag Leshuk coming into second, but missed the tag, putting runners on first and second.  Bryce Miller then doubled to drive in Leshuk for a 2-1 Burros lead.  Then Alexander Dufner hit a fly ball to right that was dropped by Case Judisch, allowing Haffely to score and make it 3-1, HCV.

Breidenbach struck out.  Patriot catcher Alex Aarsvold threw the ball wildly to first base, allowing Miller and Dufner to score, putting the Burros on top 5-1.  Brayden Chenault and Austin Cotton then walked.  After a fielder’s choice, Brody Dickhoff reached on an infield single to make it 6-1.

MayPort-CG rallied in the sixth inning.  Bricker Johnson was hit by a pitch; Connor Dockter and Sawyer McGillis singled, with Johnson scoring on the McGillis hit.  Groundouts by Easton Hanson and Alex Aarsvold brought in Dockter and McGillis to make the score 6-4.  That ended the scoring.

Chase Haffely got the win for HCV (9-6, 9-1 Region 2B), allowing 6 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), a walk, a hit batter and 5 strikeouts.  Connor Dockter took the loss for MPCG (8-6, 3-3).  He allowed 4 hits, 6 runs (3 earned), 7 walks and 6 strikeouts.

Hillsboro/Central Valley hosts Hatton-Northwood Tuesday afternoon.  MayPort-CG plays at Thompson Tuesday.
