Northern Cass 48, MayPort/CG 6

Brooks Crockett rushed for 4 touchdowns and the Northern Cass defense held MayPort/CG to 41 yards total offense as the Jaguars defeated the Patriots 48-6 Friday night at Northern Cass.

The third ranked Jaguars improve to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 1A play.  This despite losing starting quarterback Hudson Rietschel in the first quarter to an injury.

Northern Cass took the opening kickoff and drove 63 yards in 9 plays with Crockett scoring on a 9 yard run. Brody Zieske’s extra point made it 7-0.  Then after MayPort-CG went three and out, the Jaguars drove 82 yards in 12 plays in a drive that went 5:52.  Trever Lee scored on a 25 yard run on the first play of the second quarter to make the score 14-0.

MayPort-CG made a break in the second quarter when the Patriots blocked a Noah Christensen punt and took over on the Jaguars 41.  Quarterback Jayd Larson scored on a 26 yard run on fourth down to cut the deficit to 14-6 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Northern Cass took command.  On the second play of the quarter, the Jaguars’ Aiden Dickson recovered a fumble at the Patriot 18 yard line.  Two plays later, Crockett scored on an 18 yard run to make the score 21-6.  Later in the quarter, Carter Grandalen intercepted a Larson pass and returned it to the MPCG 6 yard line.  3 plays later, Crockett scored his third TD of the night from 4 yards out.  The PAT kick missed, with the Jaguars in front 27-6.

40 seconds later, Crockett scored again on a 6 yard run to make it 34-6, Northern Cass.  Crockett finished with 96 yards in 6 carries.  Then on the ensuing kickoff, MPCG fumbled and the Jaguars recovered at the Patriot 19.  2 plays later, Zieske scored on a 14 yard run to make the score 40-6 after 3 quarters.

The fourth quarter was in running time.  Freshman quarterback Ike Bush scored his first varsity TD on a 13 yard run.  Christian Zavala ran for a 2 point conversion to make the final score 48-6.

Northern Cass will host Oakes next Friday with both teams 4-0 in Region 1A play.  MayPort/CG travels to Lisbon last week.
