The defending ND Division B State Girls Basketball champions, May-Port-C-G, held their home opener in Finley, Thursday. Despite a sluggish start, the Patriots used a dynamic second quarter and second half enroute to a 64-26 victory over Midway/Minto.
The Mustangs led after the first quarter, 11-9. The Patriots flipped the script in the second quarter, opening up the second on a 13-0 run. The Patriots continued that momentum, outscoring the Mustangs in the second quarter, 27-8, to take a 36-19 lead at the half. The Patriots never let up on the gas, outscoring the Mustangs in the second half, 28-6.
MPCG sophomore, Jordyn Carpenter, put on a show, leading all scorers with a double-double 27 points and eleven rebounds. Midway-Minto freshman, Adyson Dauksavage, led the Mustangs with ten. The Patriots improve to 2-1 with the win while the Mustangs drop to 1-1 with the loss. Both teams continue their schedule Monday. Midway-Minto will host Nelson County while the Patriots go back on the road to Thompson.
