MN Class A Championship Fertile-Beltrami vs Cherry
Minneapolis, MN — The Cherry Tigers beat the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons 78-40 in the State Class A Boys Basketball Championship game on Saturday.
Cherry put the Falcons behind the eight ball early as the Tigers scored the first 11 points to take a quick double digit lead. Masen Nowacki hit two mid range jumpers put Fertile-Beltrami on the board four minutes in 11-4. Cherry would then go on a 14-2 run taking a 24-6 lead and forcing Neil Steffes to take his first timeout at the 7:52 mark. From there, Fertile-Beltrami would put together a solid couple of minutes and had a chance to cut the deficit to single digits as they trailed 28-17 but they were unable to do so and Cherry outscored the Falcons 15-4 from that point taking a 43-21 halftime lead.
Fertile-Beltrami scored the first five points of the second half in an effort to chip into the deficit but Cherry would again answer with a 10-0 run and would essentially put the nail in the coffin en route to their championship win. Cherry wins the game 78-40.
Fertile-Beltrami finishes their season 27-7 and graduate four seniors: Caiden Swenby, Derek Sorenson, Masen Nowacki, and Cody Opdahl.
