MN State Class A Football Semifinals
Recap
The Mahnomen Waubun Thunderbirds saw their season come to an end in the State Football Semi Finals with a 36-12 loss to the Springfield Tigers. Although the Thunderbirds defense was able hold the Tigers running game to just 36 yards on the day, it would be costly turnovers and a stout Tigers passing game that would be the difference. The Tigers were able to capitalize on 2 1st quarter turnovers to lead after 1 quarter 14-0. The Thunderbirds offense struggled to find rythem, while Springfield would use good field position and would continue to go to the air to go into the halftime mark leading 28-0. Mahnomen Waubun would step it up in the 2nd half with the defense able to make some big stops, but it wouldn’t be until the 4th quarter the Mahnomen Waubun would put point son the board with 2 scores, which would be to little to late. Mahnomen Waubun ends their season at 11-1 while Springfield will move on to play for a class A championship at 12-1.
