Montevideo at Pequot Lakes

For the first time in the 4-year run of state tournaments, the Pequot Lakes boys basketball season was cut short with back-to-back losses.
In the AA Consolation Semifinals, the Patriots couldn’t cool down the hot-shooting Montevideo Thunderhawks, falling 62-39 to end their season at 23-9.
The first half was run after run as the Patriots scored seven straight for an early 7-2 lead. Montevideo scored the next 14 to go up 16-7. The Patriots bounced back with 8 straight to cut the lead to one at 16-15 with 4:33 left in the half. Montevideo returned the favor and ended the half with a 9-0 run to lead 25-15 heading into the locker room.
The second half was all about Montevideo’s offensive efficiency, as the Thunderhawks shot an incredible 63% from the floor, keeping the thoughts of a Patriots’ comeback in the distance. Griffin Epema lead the Thunderhawks with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Gannon Reidinger, the lone starting senior for Montevideo added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Harrison Kennen, one of five graduating Patriots once again led Pequot Lakes with 17 points and 4 rebounds.
Montevideo improves to 26-5 and will play Minnehaha Academy for the AA Consolation Final Thursday.
