Rae Nyberg’s 20 points and Aitkin’s resiliency on defense got them back to .500 with a 45-40 victory over the Mora Mustangs Friday night.

After trailing 5-0 and 7-1 in the opening minutes of the game, Aitkin would eventually claw their way back to tie the game and push an early lead. The Gobblers also hit on 8-of-16 free throws and Nyberg tallied 4 points as the main post presence for Aitkin as they lead 28-21 at halftime. Jaiden Robb paced the Mustangs for 11 points in the 1st half.

After opening the half with 5 straight points, Mora closed the game down to a 4-point deficit. Abby Palm and Ella Janzen hit three pointers for Aitkin’s lead to build back up to 10-points mid way through the 2nd half. Back down to a just a 4-point advantage, Aitkin was able to hold on for the win by out-rebounding Mora 36-24.

Nyberg led the Gobblers with 20 points and added 9 rebounds with Aitkin improving to 2-2 on the season. The Gobblers faces the Mille Lacs Raiders on Tuesday, which can be heard on KKIN-AM 930/FM 103.1 and seen on Yourliveevent.com. Mora falls to 1-2 on the year and will host Braham on Monday.
