FB: New York Mills 6 at Ada-Borup-West 13

The Ada-Borup-West Cougars took the lead in the final two minutes of the game to start their season with a 13-7 home victory over the New York Mills Eagles. The Cougars scored first with Brennen Fetting slipping between defenders on a 6-yard touchdown run for the early lead. The lead was brief however as Finn Roder took the ensuing kickoff 76-yards to the endzone to tie the score at 6-6 after the PAT was blocked. Starting the second half the Eagles drive ran inside the Cougar 10-yard line before a pair of penalties took away yardage and on third-and-goal from the 12-yard line the Eagles pass was intercepted by the Cougars’ Caspar Kritzberger. The Cougars failed to immediately capitalize on the momentum swing until late in the Fourth Quarter. Starting at their own 27-yard line with 1:49 remaining in the game the first place of the drive was a jet sweep-pass with Cameron Spaeth hitting Charlie Scholl to out run the defense for a 73-yard Touchdown and a 13-6 lead after the successful PAT. The Eagles went 4-and-out on their next drive and the Cougars were able to kneel out the clock for the victory. Ada-Borup-West will travel to Bagley next Friday while New York Mills will host Pine River-Backus in the Eagles Home Opener next week.
