Central Cass 58, Thompson 55 (OT)
For the second consecutive night, Central Cass needed overtime at the State Class B Girls Basketball Tournament…and for the second straight night, the Squirrels were winners.
Friday, Central Cass beat Rugby 53-52. Saturday, the Squirrels defeated Thompson 58-55 to win the school’s first State Class B Girls Championship.
Klaire Cotton’s three point play with 2:08 left in overtime put the Squirrels in the lead 56-55. Decontee Smith added a free throw with 1:27 to play, while Thompson wasn’t able to score again.
Decontee Smith led Central Cass (23-3) with 25 points and 17 rebounds. The senior was named to the All-Tournament team and chosen the State Tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Klaire Cotton added 13 points and twin sister Delaney added 12.
Addison Sage scored 18 points to lead Thompson (24-3), with Kya Hurst adding 17 points and ten rebounds and Olivia Dick scoring 12. Dick scored a three-pointer at the buzzer of regulation that tied the game at 49 and forced overtime. Sage and Hurst were also named to the All-Tournament team.
