The Northern Cass Jaguars overcame a slow start to remain undefeated on the season with a 36-8 win over the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros.

The Burros started strong, driving 10 plays on their opening possession before Ryan Billings capped the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to give Hillsboro/Central Valley an 8-0 lead.

The Jaguars got their offense rolling early in the second quarter. After a Burro punt gave Northern Cass the ball near midfield, Hudson Rietschel connected with Hunter Kemmet for a 25-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the drive to tie the game at 8-8.

The Jaguar defense then intercepted the Burros to quickly give the offense another opportunity. Northern Cass put together a 4:26 drive that included a key third-down conversion before Rietschel scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with just 10 seconds remaining in the first half. The Jaguars took a 15-8 lead into halftime.

Northern Cass extended its advantage immediately to start the second half when Brooks Crockett returned the kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Rietschel then added another score, breaking loose for a 26-yard touchdown run to make it 29-8.

The Jaguars capped the scoring in the fourth quarter when Rietschel connected with Crockett on a pass over the middle. Crockett cut back across the field and outran the Burro defense for a 36-yard touchdown, giving Rietschel his fourth touchdown of the game—two passing and two rushing—and completing the 36-8 Northern Cass victory.

Northern Cass improves to 5-0 and will host May-Port CG next week. Hillsboro/Central Valley falls to 0-5 and will travel to Valley City next Friday.
