Kya Hurst scored 26 points to lead Thompson past Northern Cass 64-41 Saturday to earn a place in the State Division A Girls Basketball Tournament. This will be the Tommies’ third consecutive trip to State.
Haidyn Crockett scored 27 points to break the Northern Cass record for points scored in a career. She needed 16 points to break the mark set by her sister Halle Crockett two years ago. Haidyn made a three point basket in the third quarter to eclipse Halle’s record.
Thompson played a solid defensive game, holding the Jaguars to 27.5 percent shooting (14 of 51), while outrebounding Northern Cass 44-31 and forcing 14 turnovers. (Thompson shot 41.8 percent from the field and turned the ball over 11 times.)
Hurst made 8 of 12 shots from the field, including 4 of 5 from three point range. The junior also grabbed 7 rebounds and had 2 assists, a steal and a blocked shot. Classmate Addison Sage added 17 for the Tommies (20-5).
Northern Cass ends its season with a 9-17 record.
Thompson will face Rugby in the last quarterfinal on Thursday at the State Tournament in Minot.
