Ada-Borup-West 12, Northern Freeze 2 (6 innings)

Wyatt Larson had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs as Ada-Borup-West defeated Northern Freeze 12-2 Tuesday in the opening round of the Region 8A baseball playoffs in Ada.

After Northern Freeze scored twice in the first inning, the Cougars responded with five runs in the second inning, with Austin McCraven’s two-run triple the big hit in the inning.  Then Ada-Borup-West added another five spot in the third inning..with Larson’s two-run homer the big hit.  That home run was the first this season for any Cougar hitter.

ABW added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win the game on the ten run rule.

McCraven was the winning pitcher for the Cougars.  In three innings, he allowed three hits, two runs, one walk and three strikeouts.  Lance Kritzberger went 2.2 innings, allowing one hit, no runs, two walks and four strikeouts.  Brennen Fetting retired the only batter he faced.

Parker Nelson was 2 for 3 and drove in both runs for the Northern Freeze (3-12).  Cade Knutsen took the loss, going 2.2 innings, allowing eight hits, ten runs (only four earned, thanks to five errors), with five walks and two strikeouts.  Isaak Anderson pitched 2.2 innings, allowing three hits, two runs (one earned), one walk and two strikeouts.

Ada-Borup-West (11-5) has now won nine of their last eleven games and will host West Marshall Thursday at 12:30 at Tony Sipe Field in the next round of the Region 8A tournament.
