Thief River Falls, MN — The defending Section Champion Fertile-Beltrami Falcons narrowly beat the Northern Freeze 71-66 on Thursday night in the second round of the section playoffs.

The Northern Freeze came ready to play as they built an early 16-9 lead over the Falcons. Fertile-Beltrmai would tie the game at 21-21 thanks to a 12-5 scoring run but the rest of the first half favored the Northern Freeze as they had any answer for everything that was thrown at them. Northern Freeze led 34-31 at halftime.

Falcons Head Coach Neil Steffes said their offensive execution, “looked like a junior high team” in the first half. However, in the second Fertile-Beltrami would find a groove on that end of the floor and specifically with their inside presence. Falcons Junior Center Drew Gullickson finished with 19 pts, including 12 in the second half and Junior Forward Preston Hanson scored 12 of his 22 pts in the second half en route to the 71-66 win.
