Park Christian at Red Lake County

Gunnar Halverson rushed for 260 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead Red Lake County to a 47-18 victory over Park Christian in the Section 8A football semifinals Saturday afternoon in Red Lake Falls.  The Rebels (9-1) will take on Mahnomen/Waubun next Thursday night at the Fargodome for the Section championship.

Red Lake County rushed for 431 yards as the Rebels defeated Park Christian for the second time this season–the first was 29-20 October 10 in Oklee.

Red Lake County scored on their first 2 possessions.  Halvorson on a 13 yard run with Ben Gullingsrud scoring the 2 point conversion to make it 8-0, then Gullingsrud on a 3 yard run.  The 2 point conversion made it 16-0 with 4:05 to go in the opening quarter.

Park Christian drove 73 yards in 10 plays to get on the scoreboard with Logan Giese scoring on a 4 yard run.  The pass for a PAT failed, making the score 16-6, Rebels, after one quarter and at halftime.

The Rebels’ first play from scrimmage in the second half was a 62 yard TD run by Halverson to make the score 22-6.  Scoring picked up in the 4th quarter.  PC’s Jayden Hanson connected with Nathan Peterson on a 35 yard TD pass to put the Falcons within 28-12 with 6:38 to play.  Following the kickoff, Halverson scored his 4th TD of the day on a 55 yard run to make it 34-12.  Then after Park Christian fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Gullingsrud scored on a 25 yard run.  The Kegan Schmitz extra point kick made it 41-12, RLC with 6:12 to play.

About a minute and a half later, the Rebels’  Nate Powers scored on a 60 yard run to make it 47-12.  Park Christian’s David Pettys scored on a 69 yard run to make the final score 47-18.

Red Lake County had 438 yards total offense, all but 7 on the ground (QB Connor Duden was 1 of 3 passing for those 7 yards).  Powers had 62 yards on 2 carries, Gullingsrud and Boe Nelson each ran for 42 yards.  The Rebels had 20 first downs and 3 penalties for 40 yards.

Park Christian (7-3) had 286 yards total offense.  Hanson completed 18 of 32 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Peterson caught 6 passes for 95 yards, Freddy Leistikow caught 5 for 47.  Pettys was the Falcons’ top rusher with 80 yards and a TD on 2 carries.  Logan Giese rushed 8 times for 24 yards and a TD for PC.  The Falcons had 18 first downs, 4 penalties for 40 yards and turned the ball over twice.
