Drew Overby passed for three touchdowns and Brody Gibson ran for 108 yards and a touchdown as Thompson won its home opener Friday night 26-20 over Park River Area.

The Tommies never trailed, but Park River hung on until the game’s last play, which was an interception by Thompson’s Drew Overby.

Gibson’s six yard run gave Thompson a 6-0 lead after the opening quarter.  The Tommies doubled their lead early in the second quarter on a seven yard pass from Overby to Karter Peterson.  Park River Area got on the board on a one yard run by quarterback Jace Rosinski.  Rosinski passed to Everett Fedje for a two point conversion to make the halftime score 12-8, Thompson.

Thompson drove 56 yards after the second half kickoff and scored on a 34 yard pass from Overby to Josh Juve.  That made it 18-8 in the Tommies’ favor.  The Aggies responded with a 48 yard TD run by fullback Andrew Zikmund to make it 18-14.  Zikmund led Park River Area with 89 yards rushing on nine carries.

Thompson then drove 66 yards in 11 plays for a score as Overby and Peterson connected on a ten yard TD pass.  Peterson caught a two point conversion to give the Tommies a 26-14 lead late in the third quarter.

Rosinski scored his second touchdown of the day on a two yard run midway through the fourth quarter. That made it 26-20 in favor of Thompson.

Thompson was helped in the fourth quarter by two Charlie Yon punts that pinned the Aggies inside their ten yard line.  Park River Area’s drive for a tying touchdown was stopped when Overby intercepted a Rosinski pass on the final play of the game.

Thompson (1-1) plays at Harvey/Wells County next Friday.  Park River Area (0-2) has a bye next week.
