Pillager was held scoreless for the first 9:08 of the contest as a tenacious Pequot Lakes defense propelled the Patriots to an opening night win on the road 72-33.
The Huskies were forced into 20 first-half turnovers as Pequot Lakes started the game on a 26-0 run before the first Pillager shot dropped at the 8:52 mark of the first half. The Patriot offense was impressive as well with 8 different players scoring in the first half. Pequot Lakes took a 50-13 lead into the locker room.
The big lead was maintained through the second half as the Patriots start the year 1-0, defeating the Huskies (2-1) for the 13th straight time in the series.
Tollef Birkeland and Ethan Quale each had 14 for Pequot Lakes, with Harrison Kennen also reaching double figures with 10. Christian Hooge and Gabe Parrish each had 7 to lead Pillager.
Pillager hosts Henning in Park Region Conference play Friday night on CASH 95.9, Pequot Lakes will have their hope opener Tuesday night versus Little Falls.
