Pequot Lakes at Staples-Motley

The Pequot Lakes Patriots used quick-striking runs throughout the first half to build a 51-30 lead at the break and roll to their 20th straight win over Staples-Motley 76-49 in their Section 7AA matchup.

After a Cardinals’ score to make it a 14-11 lead for the Patriots, Pequot Lakes caught fire on offense and put put together a 38-10 run pushing the lead to 49-21. Staples-Motley closed the half on a 9-2 run but couldn’t find a run in the second half as the Patriots kept their distance, cruising to the win.

Tollef Birkeland scored 18 of his game-high 24 in the first half and had three steals, two assists and two blocks. Harrison Kennen had a solid 17 and Ethan Quale filled out the stat sheet with 8 points, six assists and two steals. Alex Schultz, Payton Jares and Eli Rutten all had 10 for the Cardinals.

The Patriots remained unbeaten against section opposition as they go to 14-3 on the season, 5-0 in 7AA while the Cardinals fall to 9-6 (1-2).
