Pierz was upset minded on the road in the first Granite Ridge Conference meeting versus Pequot Lakes. Both teams had a tough road offensively in a low scoring first half. Pierz ended the half on a 10-0 run that sent them into the locker room with a 22-19 lead.

However, the Patriots came out blazing in the second half. June Ruud, who was scoreless in the first half, knocked down back-to-back shots to spark the Patriots who started the second half with a 13-0 response. Pierz would cut the lead to six at 39-33, but Pequot Lakes outscored the Pioneers 21-1 the rest of the way for a 60-34 win.

It is the 13th straight win in the series for Pequot Lakes, who improves to 9-2 on the season and 2-1 in the GRC. Pierz falls to 3-10 (0-3 GRC). The rematch is set in Pierz for February 7th.
