Pierz at Pequot Lakes

After a sluggish start from both teams, a 19-0 run midway through the first half propelled Pequot Lakes to a 30-15 halftime lead and a 63-35 win over Pierz in their first Granite Ridge Conference meeting this season.

Almost 8 minutes into the game, Pierz held the lead at 4-3 as both teams struggled with turnovers and missed shots. The Patriots were finally able to knock some shots down and take advantage of some opportunities as they scored 19 straight to take a 22-4 lead.

The offense was able to roll better in the second half for the Patriots as they pushed the lead to 30-plus halfway through the period and cruise to their sixth straight win over the Pioneers.

Mason Lundgren off the bench led the way for Pequot Lakes (6-1, 2-0 GRC) with 15 points and 3 steals. Ethan Quale had eight points, six steals and three assists. Pierz (3-6, 0-1 GRC) was led by Mason Cekalla’s nine.

They will have the rematch as part of a girls/boys doubleheader on February 7th.
