In front of a full crowd, Staples-Motley took down Pillager in a matchup of unbeaten teams entering week 4.

The Cardinals offense was solid all around, amassing 380 yards of offense. They scored on four straight possessions to take a 28-0 lead late in the first half, three of which started on the Huskies side of the 50 yard line. Pillager grabbed a bit of momentum with a 72-yard Derek Hoglin score with just under 30 seconds left in the half. Staples-Motley lead 28-7 at the break.

The second half was a bit more even as both teams found success moving the ball, but that allowed the Cardinals to maintain the advantage and take the upper hand in the 6AA standings.

Eli Rutten threw for 224 yards and two scores, both to Alex Schultz, while Luke Bjerga and Ben Tyrell each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Cardinals who move to 4-0. Pillager’s Christian Hooge threw for two 4th quarter touchdowns, but was held in check in the rushing game with only 26 yards on 17 carries. Pillager falls to 3-1 on the season.
