Polk County West at Mahnomen/Waubun

The Mahnomen Waubun Thunderbirds relied on the kicking leg of Tanner Stech to kick a 21 yard field goal in overtime to get a win in the Section 8A semi finals over Polk County West 11-8.  This was a defensive battle for 4 quarters with both teams shutting down the opposing offense.  At the half it was a scoreless game.  It wasnt until the 3rd quarter until there would be socring, the Thunderbirds would score on a 26 yard half back pass while the Thunder would score on their next drive thanks to a 9 yard pass from Mike Gapp.  Int he 4th quarter both teams would have opportunities with the THunder turning the ball over on 4th down and the Thunderbirds missing a field goal which would send the game to overtime.  PCW would have the ball first and would drive the ball to the 6 yard line before stalling out on an incomplete pass into the end zone.  Mahnomen Waubun would have their opportunity scoring on the 1st play but a holding call would move the ball back.  The Thunderbirds would drive the ball to the 8 yard line and would line up on 4th down for the field in which Tanner Stech would drill giving the Thunderbirds the win and extend their season at 9-0 while PCW ends their season at 5-5.
