Red Lake at Clearbrook-Gonvick

Clearbrook, MN — The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears defeated the Red Lake Warriors 72-60 on Monday night in the Pig Tail Round of the Section 8A Girls Basketball Tournament.

It was a slow start to the game for Clearbrook-Gonvick. Their offense couldn’t must much through the first six minutes as they would be down 14-5 at the 12 minute mark. The Bears would chip into the Red Lake lead but would still find themselves down 19-11. From that point, Clearbrook-Gonvick would make a 17-2 run to take a 28-21 lead and take a seven point, 34-27 lead into the half.

The second half would see Red Lake slowly grind away at the score could never draw even or take the lead. At around the 11 minute mark of the second half, when Red Lake was to taking a second half lead at the time, 46-44, the Clearbrook-Gonvick offense would explode going on a 14-0 run to balloon their lead 60-44. Give credit to Red Lake though as they would never go away making a 12-0 run of their own to draw back to within seven points 63-56. Red Lake would trim the deficit to three points over the course of the next few minutes but would never take a late lead and time ran out on their season as they lost 72-60.

With the win Clearbrook-Gonvick will now face the Fosston Greyhounds in the next round of the Section 8A Girls Basketball Tournament on Thursday at 7 p.m. (KKCQ AM). Red Lake ends their season with an overall record of 4-21. They graduate four seniors.
