Polk County West’s defense forced six turnovers, converting two of them into touchdowns, as the Thunder rolled past Red Lake 70-0 Friday in Climax…giving the Thunder their first victory of the season.

Greg Downs and Skylar Berg returned fumbles for PCW touchdowns, while Reez Eckerdt returned a punt 43 yards for another score.  All of those happened in the first quarter as the Thunder took a 42-0 lead. Sawyer Horken, Will Zavoral and Jace Motl also had interceptions for Polk County West.

Offensively, the Thunder’s Keane Melsa carried the ball just twice, but both times he rushed for touchdowns of 37 and 65 yards. Will Zavoral, Dylan Larson, Jace Motl and Stefan Lommen rushed for PCW touchdowns and Micah Zavoral threw a 20 yard scoring pass to Gabe Wentzel.

Polk County West (1-4) had 272 yards of total offense–240 rushing and 32 passing.

Red Lake (0-5) was held to 11 yards total offense–65 passing and -54 rushing.  Tyrone Beaulieu Jr. completed 3 of 5 passes for 59 yards.  Izaiah Villiard was 1 of 6 passing with three interceptions.

Polk County West plays at Lake Park-Audubon next Friday, while Red Lake travels to Mahnomen/Waubun.
