Red Lake @ Clearbrook-Gonvick

Clearbrook, MN — The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears hung on to defeat the Red Lake Warriors 70-68 on Friday night to win their first game of the season and the first career win for first year head coach Lindsey Samson.

The Bears had everything going for them in the first half. They were able to get out an early lead thanks to a 23 point first half from Sophomore Allison LaVine. LaVine, on multiple occasions, was able to get inside the paint and to the free throw line to score a majority of her points to lead the Bears to a 42-27 halftime lead.

Red Lake did not flinch though however. To begin the second half, the Warriors came out on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to five points, which was the closest they had been to the Bears since earlier in the first half. Red Lake would then put together another run to tie the game 52-52 with eight minutes remaining. From there the score would go back and forth as the Bears and Warriors traded buckets all the way down to the final seconds. Clearbrook-Gonvick lead 70-68 with just two seconds remaining and Red Lake was unable to put a final play together for a game winning shot giving the Bears their first win of the season to improve to 1-3. Clearbrook-Gonvick will play their first of six straight games on the road beginning on Monday in Blackduck. Red Lake is now 0-3 on the season and will play tomorrow (Saturday December 10th) at Fond du Lac.
