Fertile, MN — The Fertile-Beltrami Falcons and the Red Lake County Rebels went head to head in West Subsection Basketball collision on Thursday night. It was Fertile-Beltrami coming away victorious with the 74-59 win.

Fertile-Beltrami trailed only twice during the game, in the opening minutes at 6-5 and a few minutes later 18-16. After that the Falcons had control of the game. They put together a 14-0 run to open up a 12 point lead with just two minutes to go in the first half. Red Lake County was in danger of going down by double digits at half time until Sophomore Ben Gullingsrud hit a 35 footer at the buzzer making the score 32-25 Fertile-Beltrami at the break.

In the second Fertile-Beltrami controlled anywhere from an 8-12 point lead throughout. Red Lake County was able to cut the deficit to five, 47-42, briefly but Fertile-Beltrami’s stifling defense and clear size advantage quickly grew that lead back to double digits. Red Lake County was never able to put together a desperate scoring run and Fertile-Beltrami takes the win 74-56.

Fertile-Beltrami has now won five in a row improving to 20-3 overall and will play Goodridge/Grygla on Friday to finish the week. For Red Lake County, they fall to 22-2 and will play Stephen/Argyle in the North Start Conference Championship Friday in Red Lake Falls.
