Owen Chervestad ran for a touchdown and passed for one, while Brock Seeger ran for two scores as Red Lake County defeated Polk County West 26-14 Wednesday night in East Grand Forks.

Red Lake County’s Ethan Majeres stopped Polk County West’s first drive of the game with a interception at the Red Lake County 47.  12 plays, 53 yards and 6:34 later, Chervestad scored on a one yard run to give the Rebels a 6-0 lead.  That would be the score after the first quarter and after the second quarter.

Red Lake County started the third quarter with a nine play, 63 yard drive that finished when Chervestad threw a 21 yard touchdown pass to Jacob Harmoning.  Chervestad ran for the two point conversion to put the Rebels up 14-0.

Polk County West responded with a 61 yard, seven play drive.  Mike Gapp scored from a yard out. The Thunder trailed 14-6.

The Rebels responded as Ashtin Fredrickson returned the kickoff to PCW’s 19 yard line.  Two plays later, Seeger scored on an eight yard run to make it 20-6, RLC at the end of three quarters.

Red Lake County concluded the scoring with 4:07 to play on a 14 play, 80 yard drive that took 8:16 off the clock.  Seeger running in from a yard out to make it 26-6.

Mike Gapp scored his second TD of the day on an eight yard run with 41 seconds to play.  Gapp’s run for the conversion made the final 26-14.

Gapp rushed 36 times for 185 yards and the two touchdowns.  He also completed four of eight passes for 41 yards.

Seeger rushed 16 times for 88 yards and two Red Lake County Touchdowns.  Chervestad ran 17 times for 84 yards with a touchdown and completed two of three passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Red Lake County is now 6-2 on the season; Polk County West is 4-4.  Both teams await word on who they’ll meet in the 8A playoffs next Tuesday.

Late in the second quarter, PCW Coach Darrin Byklum changed his offense–moving Gapp to a “wildcat” quarterback.  After the game, Byklum talked about the move.
