Colin Taggart pitched a 2-hit shutout and Will Gieseke went 2 for 4 with an rbi as Red Lake Falls blanked Fertile 5-0 in the first round of the North Substate Northwest Region American Legion Baseball tournament in Ada.

Taggart allowed two singles, with only one runner reaching second base.  He walked one and struck out three.

Red Lake Falls took a two-nothing lead when Brock Seeger tripled to drive in a run and then later scored on a wild pitch by Fertile pitcher Teegyn Johnson.  RLF added two more runs on an rbi single by Cain Cardinal and a second run scored on a throwing error by third baseman Easton Petry.  Then in the sixth, Red Lake Falls scored again when Brock Knott singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Gieseke’s single.

Johnson took the loss for Fertile Post 238.  He pitched 6 innings, allowed 6 hits, 5 runs (4 earned) with 3 walks, 3 hit batters, a strikeout, three wild pitches and a balk.  Johnson and Kane Oistad had the two Fertile hits.

Fertile will face Ada in an elimination game.  Red Lake Falls takes on Warroad in a winners bracket game.
