Region 2 Baseball Tournament Loser Out – Larimore vs May-Port CG

Larimore 6, May-Port CG 5

Larimore trailed early, rallied to take a 6-2 lead, then held on to defeat May-Port-CG 6-5 Monday in the consolation round of the North Dakota Class B Region 2 baseball tournament at Mayville State.

May-Port CG scored single runs in the first and second innings to go in front 2-0.  Larimore got a run back in the third inning….then the Polar Bears batted around in the fourth inning and scored five runs–all of them unearned thanks to three Patriot errors.  Baron Burns and Avery Gratton had run-scoring singles for Larimore as they took a 6-2 lead after four innings.

The Patriots rallied in the fifth on an rbi single by Sawyer McGillis, a groundout by Walker McGillis and a rbi single by Marshall Kloster.  MPCG couid have extended the rally, but Sam Weaver lined to Polar Bear first baseman Brison Falch, who doubled Kloster off first to end the inning with Larimore still ahead 6-5.

Burns came on to pitch in relief of Larimore starter Bo Solseng in the sixth inning and allowed just one baserunner and that was on an error.  Solseng got the victory, going five innings, allowing five hits, five runs (three earned), five walks plus two strikeouts.

Walker McGillis took the loss for MayPort-CG (4-13).  He pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, six runs (one earned), with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Marshall Judisch retired the only batter he faced in the seventh.  Sawyer McGillis went 2 for 4 with 2 rbi for the Patriots.

Burns, Gratton, Jace Collison and Daniel Howard each had two hits for Larimore (2-10) with Gratton driving in two runs and making a great catch in the first inning with two out to end a MPCG rally.

Larimore moved on to face the winner of Monday’s Hatton-Northwood vs. Hillsboro-Central Valley game in another elimination game in the Region 2 tournament.
