Devils Lake 73, Thompson 64
Devils Lake made 52 percent of its shots in the second half as they rallied from a four point halftime deficit to defeat Thompson 73-64 Thursday night in the North Dakota Class A Region 2 Championship game at Mayville State University.
Devils Lake had jumped to a 14-4 first quarter lead, but Thompson made 10 of 12 second quarter shots, including three of four three-pointers to take a 31-27 halftime lead.
The fourth-ranked Firebirds rallied in the third quarter to go back in front 47-39 and then kept Thompson at bay to defeat the Tommies for the third time this season.
Wylee Delorme led Devils Lake with 22 points, including 12 of 16 from the free throw line. Mason Palmer came off the bench to score 20 for the Firebirds, who are now 22-2 on the season. The Firebirds will advance to next week’s State Class A Boys Basketball Tournament in Fargo.
Drew Overby scored 24 points for Thompson (14-11), with Brayden Wolfgram scoring 14, Gavin Krogstad 13 and Karter Peterson ten for the Tommies. Thompson will face Valley City for a berth in the State Tournament Saturday afternoon at 3 at the SHAC in Fargo.
