For the first time in several years, Hillsboro-Central Valley has reached the quarterfinals of the Region 2 girls basketball tournament after the Burros defeated Drayton/Valley-Edinburg 39-35 Friday night in Hillsboro.

It was a game where both teams struggled at times to score…and where both teams had trouble holding on to the ball (19 turnovers by HCV and 23 by DVE).

After three quarters, the Titans were in front 26-22….and after a basket by Elizabeth Fedje, DVE was in front 33-28 with 4:36 to play.

HCV tied the game on a three by Kennedy Olson with 3:56 to play; then a Paige Cotton basket put the Burros in front to stay 35-33.  Megan Ensign made three free throws in the final 1:30 to seal the victory–HCV’s third of the season against DVE.

Sophomore Sadie Gallagher had 13 points to lead the Burros, with Ensign adding ten.  Hailey Berg scored eight to lead Drayton/Valley-Edinburg.  The Titans finish the year 5-17.

HCV (5-17) plays in the Region 2 quarterfinals on Monday at 3 p.m. against #1 Thompson.
