Region 2A Volleyball Tournament – Carrington vs Thompson

Carrington 3, Thompson 2 (25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 16-14)

Top seeded Carrington came back from a 2 sets to 1 deficit to defeat Thompson 3 sets to 2 Tuesday in the North Dakota Region 2A semifinals at Mayville State University.

After dropping the first set, Thompson had 6 blocks in set 2 to win that second set 25-22 and tie the match.  Set 3 was tied at 22, but 3 straight Carrington hitting errors gave Thompson the third set 25-22.

Carrington rallied in set 4 behind 6 kills by Marah Johnson to score a 25-17 win and force a deciding fifth set.

The fifth set was tied at 10, then Thompson scored 3 straight points.  Carrington then got 3 in a row of their own to tie it at 13.  A Kloey Huebner kill gave the Tommies match point.  But the Cardinals’ Harper Kollman scored a kill and Maara Kutz had two to give Carrington the victory 16-14.

Marah Johnson led Carrington (22-3) with 17 kills, with Calleigh Hewitt adding 12 kills, a block and 3 aces. Libero Journey Peltier also had 3 aces for the Cardinals.

Thompson (21-10) had 13 blocks as a team, with freshman Vivien Majkrzak scoring 5 solo blocks and 4 block assists.  Huebner had 11 kills for the Tommies, with Danica Gross adding 10 kills, 2 solo blocks, 3 block assists and 3 aces.

Team totals:

Carrington: 43 kills, 5 blocks, 9 aces and 6 service errors.

Thompson: 48 kills, 13 blocks, 3 aces and 5 service errors.

Thompson will face Grafton in the third place game Thursday at 5:30 at Mayville State.

Carrington takes on MayPort-CG for the Region 2A Championship Thursday night at Mayville State.
