Region 2A Volleyball Tournament – Carrington vs May-Port CG

MayPort-CG 3, Carrington 1 (25-27, 25-16, 29-27, 25-17)
Paetyn Strand had 19 kills, 3 1/2 blocks and a service ace to lead MayPort-CG to a 3 sets to one victory over Carrington in the North Dakota Region 2A volleyball championship Thursday night at Mayville State University.
MayPort-CG had 7 blocks for points, but many more that forced Carrington to reset their offense again and again.
The opening set was a tight affair with each team having a chance to win. Two kills by Marah Johnson gave Carrington a 27-25 set one victory.
MayPort-CG broke a 12-all tie in set 2 and went on to take the set 25-16 to tie the match.
In set 3, Carrington had 2 set points and MayPort-CG had 3 before the Patriots’ Kennedy O’Connor got a kill to win the set 29-27.
MPCG took set 4 with 4 kills by Abby Sand (on her birthday) as the Patriots took the set 25-17 to advance to the Class A State Tournament.
Sand had 10 kills for the Patriots (29-7-1) and her teammate Ella Flaten reached the 1000 assist mark for her high school career.
Harper Kollman and Marah Johnson had 14 kills apiece for Carrington (22-4) with Maara Kutz adding 10 kills and 3 1/2 blocks for the Cardinals.
MayPort-CG advances to the State Class A tournament next week in Bismarck. Carrington will play Valley City Saturday afternoon in Jamestown for a berth in the State Tournament.
