Clearbrook-Gonvick 1 at Red Lake Co Central 3 (21-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-22)

Oklee, MN — The Red Lake County Central Mustangs defeated the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears 3-1 on Monday night to advance in the Section 8A Volleyball Playoffs.

RLCC came out strong in set one, jumping to an 11-2 lead before Clearbrook-Gonvick stormed back with a 10-0 run to go ahead 12-11. The set remained tight until the Bears took the lead for good at 14-13, completing the comeback with a 25-21 victory.

The Mustangs quickly regrouped, shaking off the opening-set loss. Set two was tied 11-11 before RLCC began to pull away, maintaining steady control to take both the second and third sets by identical scores of 25-17.

In the fourth set, RLCC opened with an 8-2 advantage, once again taking command early. Clearbrook-Gonvick continued to battle, narrowing the gap to 19-16 and later 23-22. But after a late timeout, the Mustangs sealed the match with back-to-back points, winning the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.

With the win, RLCC improves to 10-16 and advances to face the No. 2-seeded Fertile-Beltrami Falcons on Wednesday in Fertile. The loss ends Clearbrook-Gonvick’s season at 3-19, as the Bears say goodbye to just three graduating seniors.
