Section 8A Semifinals Fosston vs Kelliher-Northome

The Fosston Greyhounds outscored the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs 38-24 in the second half and went on to win 63-52 in the East Sub-Section 8A championship game at Thief River Falls. The Greyhounds trailed 28-25 at halftime but a Vanessa Johnson three pointer gave Fosston the lead for good at 36-34. The Greyhounds would go on a 23-4 run to help them pull away for the win. Sophomore Lexi Mahlen led Fosston with 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Greyhounds improve to 28-2. Fosston has won 17 of their last 18 games. Brynlea Mahlen pitched in with 12 points for Fosston while Calli Burrack added 11 points and Tessa Manecke 10 points for the Greyhounds. Kate Thayer and Kylee Binkley each scored 17 points for Kelliher/Northome as the Mustangs end their season at 25-4 and had their 11 game winning streak come to an end. Both teams turned the ball over 17 times with 13 of Kelliher/Northome’s turnovers coming in the second half. The Greyhounds will now face the Kittson County Central Bearcats for the Section 8A Championship on Friday, March 8th (7:00 pm on 96.7 FM and Your Live Event). Fosston defeated Kittson County Central 56-54 in overtime when the two played each other January 16th at Northland College in Thief River Falls. The Bearcats defeated East Grand Forks Sacred Heart 81-73 to win the West Sub-Section 8A championship.
