GBB Staples-Motley at Hawley

Katy Vetter scored 21 points and Hawley’s defense forced 41 turnovers as the Nuggets opened their girls basketball season with a 60-43 victory over Staples-Motley Saturday in Hawley.

Hawley never trailed in the game as Staples-Motley turnovers prevented the Cardinals from getting a foothold on the game.  The Nuggets and Cardinals each had 44 rebounds, with Hawley having 19 offensive boards to Staples-Motley’s 11.

Besides Vetter, Sella Fleming scored 15 points and Emily Vettern 10 as new Hawley Coach Jed Carlson won his first game as Nuggets coach.

Livi Lorber scored 15 points and Miranda Schotzko 14 to lead Staples-Motley (1-1)

Hawley travels to Barnesville on Tuesday; while Staples-Motley plays at Pelican Rapids Tuesday.
